Hello everyone a few months ago last year to be exact, iv'e been wanting to search for more music to listen to, with out robotic sounds, technology and just a push of a button. I know that we all favor music being made like that. But have you guys ever witnessed raw music before? If you have then you can appreciate every note, sound and all of the time that it takes to practice making such tasteful music. I've had the utmost privileged of Witnessing, such art being made live By a young Musician: Malcolm Parson. 21 years old Brotha from New Orleans Louisiana. I met him in the train station on "Jay street Metro Tech"playing on the cello. As i and a few Bystanders stood there and watched him finish playing i took the liberty of getting to know him more. Check out the interview down below. and the link to his EP "ANTMY" to buy is down below.
- T.O.T.E: When was the first time you knew you wanted to play music and why?M.P: Well, I come from a musical family so I fell in love with music age the
age of 3. At that time my father was giving me private instruction on
the snare drum as well as the drum kit. I always had this dying need
of performing with one of my father's jazz groups. One would say
that it was a form of looking up to your parents as a role model or
mentor, though that is true in this case, I was more intrigued with
the type of music he was performing, composing, and trying to keep
up with the veterans.T.O.T.E: We're are you from and originated from?M.P:I was born in New Orleans Louisiana and moved to Atlanta, GA when I
was 11.T.O.T.E: What influences you and who are your idols?M.P: I'm influenced by every type of music out there but more importantly,
I'm influenced by life and I try to use the daily struggles that we all
go through as my canvas. I have so many people that I look up to
but out of them all my idols would include Quincy Jones, Herbie
Hancock, Yo-Yo Ma, and Bobby McFerrin.T.O.T.E: What was it like for you growing up? Did your family have a musical background?M.P: I grew up in a musical family so no matter what day of the week it would be, music always seemed to be the focal point of everything. Being a kid in New Orleans had a big reason as to why music was such apart of my life. It was apart of the culture and my surroundings. - T.O.T.E: How many instruments can you play?M.P: I can play 6 instruments ( cello, guitar, piano, electricbass, and drums)
T.O.T.E: Do you have any new projects coming out?M.P: I'm currently working on my first ever full length record, ANTMY, that I am extremely excited about. I recently released an EP version of the project July 5, 2012. Working as a producer and songwriter for other projects has pushed some of my personal creative tastes to the side and now I have the ability to create without having to cater to anyone but myself. Im excited to see exactly how the project will turn out.T.O.T.E: We're can people come and see you perform?M.P: As of now, I have 2 dates lined up in 2013 at Jazz at Lincoln Center w/Paquito D'Rivera. If you are in New York, make sure to mark your calendars for March 8-9.Besides learning how to play music from your father did you ever go to a school for the arts?
- Yes. I graduated from Tri- Cities High School Performing Arts Program (Xscape, Outkast, etc) and Berklee College of Music.T.O.T.E: What was the most challenging moment in your life?
M.P: The most challenging moment in my life was the time that I had to fully discipline myself in order for me to reach my musical goals. It has required me to sacrifice a lot of things.T.O.T.E: What is the mark you want to leave on the world?M.P: That I stayed true to myself as well as to the music. I want my music to be timeless and transcend for centuries.T.O.T.E: What is a quote you will always live by?M.P: Stay focused!______________________________________________________________________________
